Why it matters

Time Together Is Not a Luxury. It Is Care.

Growing older at home can be wonderful. It can also be lonely. When a spouse passes, when friends stop driving, when the kids live two time zones away, the hours stretch out and the world gets smaller.

A companion changes the shape of the day. Someone to share a meal and a story. Someone who notices the mail is piling up, the fridge is a little empty, or the spark is not quite there, and gently loops your family in. Because our team is nurse led, that attentiveness runs deep.

Good care is not just what gets done. It is who shows up, and how they make your loved one feel.

Every plan is built around what your loved one actually enjoys and needs. It often includes:

  • Company and conversation

Real presence and genuine conversation, the heart of every visit.

  • Shared activities

Cards, puzzles, reading, music, a walk around the block, or a favorite hobby, together.

  • Meals together

Planning and preparing nourishing meals, and the simple pleasure of not eating alone.

  • Light housekeeping

Keeping the living spaces tidy, laundry done, and the home comfortable.

  • Errands and shopping

Grocery runs, picking up the essentials, and getting things done around town.

  • Rides and outings

Friendly company and a ride to appointments, outings, and visits with friends.

  • Medication reminders

Gentle reminders so your loved one can keep up with their own medication schedule.

  • Technology help

A patient hand with phones, video calls, and staying connected to the people they love.

The Aloha difference

Companionship With a Nurse's Eye

Anyone can send a friendly face. Aloha Senior Home Care sends the right one, and keeps a caring eye behind them. You get one consistent companion, chosen for personality and fit, backed by a nurse led team that catches the small changes and keeps your family close.

  • A consistent, matched caregiver

You get to know one trusted face, chosen for personality and fit, not a rotating door of strangers.

  • Nurse led oversight

Maya German, RN and our team stay involved, so small changes are noticed early and shared with your family.

  • Background checked and trained

Every companion is carefully vetted, background checked, and trained in non-medical senior support.

  • Available 24/7

From a few hours a week to around the clock company, care flexes to your family's needs.

Companionship vs personal care

Which Kind of Care Does Your Family Need?

Two of our most requested services, side by side. Companionship is about presence and connection, while personal care adds hands on help with bathing, dressing, and daily routines. Many families start with one and add the other as needs change.

Companion Care

Company, connection, and everyday help

Ideal for
Loneliness, quiet days, and needing a hand plus a friend
Everyday help
Conversation, activities, meals, errands, light housekeeping, reminders
Hands on personal help
Not the focus
Medical or nursing needs
Never included. This service is non-medical.

Personal Care

Hands on help with daily routines

Ideal for
When bathing, dressing, and moving safely get harder to do alone
Everyday help
Everything a companion offers, plus more hands on support
Hands on personal help
Bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility
Medical or nursing needs
Never included. This service is non-medical too.

Both of these services are non-medical. Neither includes nursing, therapy, or the care a doctor orders. If your loved one needs that, we help your family coordinate with the right licensed provider.

How it works

Getting Started Is Simple

  1. 1

    We listen

A free consultation to understand your loved one's days, their needs, and what would make life brighter.

  2. 2

    We match

We choose a companion by personality and fit, and build a simple plan around real life.

  3. 3

    We stay close

Your companion settles in, our nurse led team keeps watch, and your family finally gets room to breathe.

Is it time?

Signs It Might Be Time

A companion is often the gentlest first step. It may be time if you have noticed:

Noticing even one or two is reason enough to reach out. There is never a wrong time to ask, and the first conversation is always free.

Schedule a Free Consultation
  • More time spent alone, or less interest in the things they used to love
  • Meals skipped, or a fridge that stays too full
  • Fewer calls, visits, or outings than there used to be
  • A parent who lights up at company but will never ask for it
  • You worrying about them through the quiet hours of your own day
Companionship questions

Companion Care, Answered

Straight answers to what San Diego families ask us most about companionship at home.

What does companion care include?

It is non-medical support focused on connection and everyday life: real conversation and company, shared meals and activities, help around the house, grocery runs and errands, rides to appointments and outings, gentle medication reminders, and a patient hand with technology. Every plan is built around what your loved one actually enjoys.

What is the difference between companion care and personal care?

Both are non-medical. Companionship centers on company, conversation, and help around the home. Personal care adds hands on help with daily routines like bathing, dressing, and moving safely. Many families begin with a companion and add personal care as needs change.

Can a companion give medications?

No. Companions provide non-medical reminders only, helping your loved one stay on schedule and organized. Giving or adjusting a medication stays with your loved one, your family, and your pharmacy or doctor.

How much does a companion cost?

Aloha Senior Home Care companionship is private pay: your family arranges and pays for care directly, rather than billing a health plan or a government program. During your free consultation we walk through clear, honest pricing based on the hours and level of support you need, with no pressure.

Can a companion help someone living with dementia?

Yes, in a non-medical way. A calm, familiar companion can bring routine, conversation, and a reassuring presence in the early stages of memory loss. For more hands on memory support, ask about our Alzheimer's and dementia care, and because our team is nurse led, we will help you know when something should involve your doctor.

How do we get started?

Start with a free consultation. Call (858) 399-1400 or request a visit online, and a member of our nurse led team, overseen by Maya German, RN, will talk through your loved one's days, their interests, and the kind of companion who would be the right match. No pressure, ever.

Still have a question? Call us at (858) 399-1400.

Bring a Little More Life Into Their Day

One conversation is all it takes to begin. Tell us about your loved one, and we will help you decide if this is the right fit, with no pressure and no obligation.

Aloha Senior Home Care provides non-medical companionship. This page is general information, not medical advice. For medical concerns, always consult your loved one's doctor.
